novel
participated at he World Diabetes Conferenece in Capetown.

For IDF, the 19th World Diabetes Congress was a long-overdue
return to Africa after an absence of more than 20 years.
For the global diabetes community, it presented an opportunity
to come together to share knowledge, experience and ideas.
For the diabetes community on the African continent, it
offered a chance to raise awareness of the seriousness
of the condition and bring hope to those living with diabetes
across the region.

ESM
2006 successfully carried out (Sept 04, 2006) |
|
The
10th emed scientific meeting held in Bavaria was a superb
display of scientific material and a wonderful mix of
social and intellectual interaction. This was my first
experience at the ESM meeting and with the novel users.
I had a wonderful experience!
Axel began the week by giving each novel user the chance
to participate in workshops related to pressure measurement.
The workshops gave the attendees an opportunity to learn
about the new functionalities and to ask questions regarding
all novel products.
The next day began in beautiful Bavaria! The days
agenda was used for scientific presentations and posters.
Presentations were given by two keynote speakers and also
the presentation and poster novel award winners, Kerstin
Bosch and Arne Nagel. Both award winners are from the
University of Münster. After
a full day of scientific presentations and discussions
everyone relaxed and enjoyed the sunset from the hills
of Schliersee. The evening was filled with traditional
food and dress from the Bavarian region.
The third day was the Activity Day. Those participants
who were very brave chose to go on the 35 kilometer mountain
biking tour. Others chose from either the long or short
hike. Each activity had spectacular views of the Bavarian
Alps. I chose to join the short hike. We had the wonderful
Daniela as our guide. She did her best to keep the 30
+ people together, but unfortunately some of us gave her
a scare by getting too far ahead of the group (sorry Dana!).
Everyone was very grateful for each of the novel guides.
After a long day everyone relaxed with a gourmet barbecue
dinner on the island of Wörth. Again the views were
beautiful and the conversation stimulating.
The final day of the conference continued the excellent
standard of scientific presentation including the remainder
of the keynote speakers and novel award presentations.
Throughout the day there was much collaboration and discussion
based on the research performed and the methods used.
Once the scientific aspect of the day ended the evening
began with a champagne cocktail hour followed by an exquisite
dinner. After dinner was the announcement of the novel
award winners by the children of the meeting. Finally
the night ended with each
participant dancing with the Bavarian dancers.
Of course for some participants the night did not end
there, but that is a different story :)!
Thanks to all of those who presented and a special thanks
to all of those who spent so many hours organizing the
wonderful event!

Noraxon
EMG and pedar (June 26, 2006) |
|
|
The
three video files show the synchronisation between the
Noraxon EMG and the pedar system.
For the measurement "Running on treadmill"
at the beginning of each pedar frame, a sync out puls
was sent out, which was recorded on an additional EMG
channel. This allowed the automatic start of the EMG
data collection and a frame by frame synchronisation
of the measurement.
For the measurements "Walking test on the treadmill"
and "Extended drop jump" the pedar feature
"pedoport footswitch" was used. A user defines
force threshold for one pedar insole to be reached and
in real-time a sync pulse will be generated by the pedar.
This sync out signal lasts for the entire time the force
is above the force threshold. This method is used as
an event marker - recorded by the EMG system - to accurately
detect in a very accurate way ground contact and gait
cycles in real-time. This allows for easy averaging
of different cycles in the EMG software afterwards.

Bike
seat and shoe testing with the new pliance bike sensor
mat and pliance-x system (June 22, 2006) |

novel tested several MTB bike seats and shoes in which
bike shoe measurements were synchronised with the new
pliance bike sensor system measurements.
The subject climbed a hill 28 times during the testing
when the outside temperature reached 32 ° Centigrade.

Neuer
High-tech-Sensor von novel zur Handschriftmessung (April
07, 2006) |
|
|
Die neueste Entwicklung aus dem novel-Forschungslabor
ist ein schmaler und sehr genauer Sensor. Dieser wurde
ursprünglich zur Messung der Handschrift bei geriatrischen
Patienten entwickelt. Dafür wird der Sensor um
einen digitalisierten Stift gewickelt. Die dynamische
Druckverteilungsmessung ist mit Video und EMG synchronisiert
und erlaubt die Analyse der Bewegungskontrolle bei älteren
Patienten. Dieser schmale Sensor ist darüber hinaus
vielfältig einsetzbar.
Technical Merkmale Pen Sensor S 2060
Matrix:
11 x 8 Sensoren
Abmessung:
110 x 39,2 mm
Abmessung
pro Sensor: 10 x 4,9 mm/Sensor
Druckbereich:
2-100 kPa (Standard)
Dicke:
0,27 mm, kann über einen Durchmesser von 12 mm
gezogen werden

Testing under racing conditions using pedar-x mobile (Feb
08, 2006) |
|
|

The Human Performance Laboratory, University of Calgary,
together with the Canadian National Ski Team is using
the pedar-x mobile system for tests under racing conditions.
Tests were performed in the Austrian mountains after
the Kitzbuehl race. On a 300 m distance all data was
sent online from the skier to the coach's notebook computer.
Video was captured synchronously with the force distribution
data inside the shoes. Dr.Axel Kalpen, the head of the
novel biomechanics lab was supporting the team. The
tests will be continued in the Canadian mountains after
the Olympic Games in Torino.
